Disney Doozy 2017 Recap

After three straight weeks of poor showing on team workout Saturdays, we finally got a great turnout! Carter, Kenny, Conor, Maddy, and her brother Nolan all set their alarms for an unusually early time of 8:30 am and joined the rest of our crew for the classic Disney Doozy Theme Workout.

Lindsey surprised everyone by bringing on our choice of Moana or the new Beauty and the Beast for us to watch after the workout, and Pat provided us with a slew on unfavorable carbohydrates to snack on (though, you heathens ate my Starbursts).

On a more serious side, Elizabeth and Jennifer teamed up to win the workout under the alias "Olaf and Sven" from that God-awful movie, Frozen. But we forgive them because they won.

There are few things that can put me in a better mood than seeing a well-attended Summer Theme Workout, and you guys all did a great job today, especially rookies Lindsey and Pat. Big shouts to Bubs for being Bubs. And special mention to Binno, who not only won the best-dressed award for his Aladdin outfit, but also put his plunging powers to good use a half hour before the session and unclogged the paper-towel stuffed boys' toilet. (Paper towel is for the garbage can... I thought that was a given!)

But I digress. Again, thanks for a great workout folks. Be on the lookout for 80's coming soon. Until then:

May Payment Revision + Pics of the Week

Hey kids,

I messed up on the May payment addition. For some reason I thought we did $15 bucks the previous years, but it was actually $10. So please add 10 bucks per athlete to this May's payment to cover through June 12. If you are: Pat, Mrs. Fitz, Conor, Crystal, Fry, and Mrs. Kroll please see me and I'll have 5 bucks to refund you. If you are the people above please do not:

a) say "nah, don't worry about it. Just keep it."

b) put that 5 bucks towards the Summer

c) root for LeBron

It helps for me book keeping if the payments are consistent, so please take the refund money. And invent curse words to shout at the Cavs if you have any free time.

Thanks

Chris

This week we have two notable pictures. The first was a Monday session that happened to feature three of the original mommies with their parents shirts.

We all assume, of course, they called each other this morning in between loads of laundry and watching Soap Opera television to coordinate their outfits.

Then on Wednesday, I thought I broke Jennifer while doing PNF pike stretch.

I did not break Jennifer. She is a drinking fountain, and water cannot be broken.

What Are They Saying vol. 10: Summer Teaser

This picture was taken post-workout at our annual Hawaiian/Shark Week Theme from last July.

Robert, Banets, and Jabara at Mott

There's a lot going on tomorrow afternoon at Warren Mott High school.

First, the Macomb County Track Championship Meet will be held at Mott starting at 4:00 pm. It will be the last meet Shannon and I will be coaching in this season, and it will also be host to Champions Club's own Robert Kroll. Robert is running for De La Salle and he will be in the 200m dash and 4x400m relay.

A few hundred feet away, the Mott softball team is playing their last home game before districts. It is senior night, so Alyssa Jabara and reigning Athlete of the Summer Elizabeth Banet will be honored among a few other seniors. And let's not forget about Jennifer the drinking fountain, who starts at 3rd. The first game is at 4:30 and the second one is right after, so hopefully you guys can make it up for a bit.

Beast Mode: The Return of Banet

After a fall hiatus due to volleyball, we should be seeing more Banets scarreted about the gym now that the season is over.

One thing that is cool is seeing good habits stay with our athletes like Ricky, Master P, Maria (who you will be seeing soon), and the Banets even after long time away. I know I can't take credit for a lot of it, but at least I know something is going right.

Here is Jennifer, Erika, and Elizabeth on their max effort today. It's not quite the Banet movement we're used to, but it's not too far off. Take a peek:

Jennifer 100/50

Erika 100/65

Elizabeth 115/65

Picture Analysis: Mr. Z

Mr. Z, I know you think I'm the "only trainer" because I pay you occasional compliments. Unfortunately, this is not one of those occasional times. Check out this photo from earlier this month of Mr. Z during a squat.

Notice how his shoulders are rolled forward? When we are standing straight up, we cue good shoulder position by flipping the palms up so that your pinkies are close to your body and your thumbs are away from your body. During a squat, not much changes. Instead of exaggerating the movement by flipping the palms all the way up (because after all, you have the squat to think about), we cue "thumbs up". This ensures that the elbow-pits are facing up towards the ceiling and the shoulder is in a better position. For people with notoriously bad shoulder position, like Mr. Z, it's especially important to spend as much time with those shoulders back as possible. Here's some better examples by Jennifer and Kroll.

Tire Jumps with The Freaks

After the workout on Friday, Murley took the 7 pm crew through a few variation of tire jumps - increasing the range of motion from what we typically see with touch-and-go jumps. As expected, Jennifer showed everyone up. Here's how they looked:
