Welcome to the Champions Club Summer 2018!

New Graduate: Lindsey

Yesterday morning Lindsey Eason finished her 8th and final Fundamentals session doing a Helen in 7:59 with 200m runs, 12k swings, and ring rows. She will now be joining the group with her sister, Kasey, and is primed to have a great Summer.

Lindsey is one of the most pleasant surprises I have seen go through Fundamentals in recent memory. Being the younger cousin of Jesse and Jay, I naturally heard a lot of teasing directed at her (and Kasey, obviously) about her athleticism. But Lindsey proved to be a very quick learner throughout the course of our Fundamentals sessions. On Day 1, she could barely do a 10 sec. hollow hold, and yesterday she did 4 sets of tabata rocks without breaking one bit. Running, unweighting, kipping, squats, and jump ropes all progressed very quickly. The only weak point I noticed was upper body pulling strength. But it's nothing a little consistent attendance won't fix.

Lindsey also seems to be having a good effect on her sister, seeing as Kasey's attendance has improved since Lindsey joined. Hopefully we'll be seeing both of them around a lot. Welcome to the Champions Club Lindsey!

New Kid on the Block: Lindsey

While Jay was back for a brief stint last week before going back to Grand Valley to finish up a summer class, he brought in his cousin, Lindsey Eason, to try out a session. As luck would have it, that session was the running/deadlift/back squat in the rain, and somehow she still decided to sign up.

Lindsey is the sister of 2015 Fundamentals graduate and part-timer Kasey Eason. Unlike Kasey, Jay, and Jesse, Lindsey decided against Grand Valley and chose Saginaw Valley where she just finished her sophomore year. As a high schooler at Lamphere she did cheerleading and soccer, as well as some side gymnastics work to help with cheer. So far, Lindsey has surprised me with her coordination and conditioning.

Earlier today she got her first ever double under and was able to cycle through regular jump ropes easily. And she's been through workouts that have given past Fundamentals peeps some trouble, coming out on the other end less fatigued that I assumed.

She picks back up with Day 3 tomorrow, but so far things are looking good for this college kid.

Theme Workout Announcement: Harry Potter

School is starting up very soon and that means the Hogwarts Express will be loading up on Platform 9¾ ready to take wizarding students to Hogwarts. This means one thing for the Champions Club:

Harry Potter Theme Workout!

As is tradition, we will be dividing everyone into four houses and they will be competing for the House Cup. Goblet of Squats, Hagrid's Hang Cleans, and Chamber of Sit-ups will be featured and reps will be counted up at the end.

Saturday at 11 am for the kids, Sunday at 12 noon for the parents. Be ready!

Campus Improv Week 1 Recap

I gotta say I am very happy with the participation from Campus Improv this week. Here's a quick recap of which College Kids worked out this week.

Tuesday's Campus Improv featured Jacqueline working out with Megan, Bubs working out with Kyle, and Jay working out by himself. And to top things off, Mrs. Pip added in some kind words of encouragement for our College Kids.

Wednesday's Campus Improv was a makeup from Monday. Joe and Bubs were the only ones to follow the workout, but Aly and Jay chimed in to participate in the comments.

Thursday's Campus Improv saw Jacqueline and Joe doing improvised versions of "Gwen," while Katie Bromm went running with a boy and Bubs embarassed herself trying to do gymnastics.

Friday's Campus Improv featured Jay back in action and doing squats to a box whiile he is rehabbing his knee. But more importantly, both of his cousins worked out: Kasey Eason - who worked out by herself at Central, and Alec, who has worked out with us a few times before and lives with Jay in their trailer park.

The only picture submitted was Jacqueline's panorama of her workout room at Oakland.

Let's have another good week kids!

Bye Bye Kasey

The Harry Potter themed workout was sadly Kasey's last with the Champions Club for the summer. As of today, she is packing up and moving back to Central Michigan University.

Kasey was pressured encouraged to join the Champions Club by cousin Jay Junkin. For some reason, she decided to trust Jay and signed up for Fundamentals right before the summer started, and then jumped right in. Kasey had a rough stretch where every workout she showed up for sucked.

Kasey: "What's the workout today?"

Coaches: "Murph."

Kasey goes MIA. Several days later.

Kasey: "So what's the workout today?"

Coaches: "A 30 minute AMRAP with 800m runs in it."

Kasey goes MIA yet again, and this time I'm not sure if she'll come back.

Kasey: "Oh god what's the workout? I know it's gonna be bad cause I'm here."

Coaches: "'s Chelsea."

"Why am I here???"

Luckily, she stuck around and had a consistent last couple weeks. Kasey's started moving very well recently and even got her first double under during the Harry Potter Workout warmup. Can't wait to see you post on Campus Improv! Keep those knees from caving in while you're gone...

New Graduate: Kasey the Klimber

This afternoon, recent Fundamentals graduate Kasey Eason got her first rope climb during the warmup at the noon session. Check it out.

Since finishing Fundamentals, Kasey has fit in very well with our group and her form has been steadily improving. Also, it should be noted this accomplishment gives her a total of 1 more rope climb than her cousin Jesse Junkin has this year. Let the family bragging begin.

New Graduate: Kasey

Kasey has probably been the most surprising person for me to take through fundamentals. She used to be a cheerleader, and I might have to concede that cheerleading might resemble a sport. Although Kasey's biggest weakness is her weak-ness (arms mostly), she is actually pretty coordinated. She picked up olympic lifting, both from the hang and from the ground, in less than 15 minutes. It made for a pretty quick last day of fundamentals. She finished with a 5-minute first date with "Fran!"

Welcome to the group, Kasey!
