I was about Mya’s age when I started at The Champions Club, back when Cecelia seemed like less of a friend and more like some untouchable CrossFit god. I can still remember the absolute terror I felt as Chris shoved me in her direction, insisting that I seek soccer advice. When Mya reached out to me for something similar, I figured Chris was back to his old ways. Come to find out, she did it completely on her own.
This initiative would shine through again when I invited her out to a 6 a.m. Rochester practice. That morning, I pulled into an empty parking lot to find Mya standing in the pouring rain. Apparently, practice had been canceled at the last minute. Instead of driving back home and getting into bed like I planned, Mya insisted on getting some practice in anyway. It was around this time that I realized she was really something special.
Throughout the past year, Mya has been a constant at the 5:30 session, bringing her all to each workout. She’s proven herself to be an incredibly hard worker, often staying after to practice her pull-ups and push-ups. Her dedication and easy-going attitude have made her a great addition to the gym, and I am excited to see what the next few years have in store for her. Happy one year, Mya! Keep up the great work!
