Despite Emma Wonsil's apparent hatred for Track & Field, she's not all that bad. Today was probably her best day running as far as accomplishments go. She managed a Catholic League Championship in both the 100 meters (her warm up race) and the 400 meters.
In the hundred, Emma used her speed out of the blocks to get out to an early position right behind the leader. After that, her closing speed took over and she passed up Shrine's top runner for the gold medal.
About 30 minutes later, Emma lined up in lane 5 for the 400 meter final...only to be put on hold another half hour due to a rain delay. Once things picked back up again, Emma got out to another great start - maintaining a lead over Riverview Richard's top runner (who came in ranked number 1). After being briefly passed up by both Riverview and Ann Arbor runners around the final turn, Emma's hill training paid off as she pulled ahead of both runners in the final 50 meters and never looked back - running a 1:01.7 on a windy track.
Great job kiddo. One more race then you'll never have to bother with track again!
Emma (middle) was practicing her starts yesterday after the noon session with DeJour and Shannon. Her sights will now be set on breaking the school record of :59.9 seconds.

Inspiration.
So proud of you Em! Trackstar :)
Acceptance speech: I have faced adversity and despite a heel strike mid season that brought things to standstill, I crossed the line to get the job done. I would like to thank the arch for its great support throughout the year.
