End of an Era

Today marked the end of the high school athletic career of Emma Wonsil. Her State Finals for track is over and her softball team failed to advance out of their district, both happening earlier today. Sometimes numbers/awards don't tell the whole story. Emma doesn't hold any school records or state awards. But, in this case, none of that is necessary to understand what she became as an athlete and what she meant to the Champions Club. It's pretty obvious to anyone who watched her over the past three years.

Emma has been the most consistent athlete since the first day of Summer '10 when she used the Dark Green band and knee push-ups on Cindy. She has been through all of the new coaching philosophies, technique/programming experimentation, and the breakup with the school. The finished product proved to excel in not three, but four sports and inspired athletes both younger and older.  Bottom line, she done things no athletes at Foley have ever accomplished - including a 20 minute sequence for the ages.

True, if you were to ask her, she would probably tell you she could have done a lot better. But the first person through the wall never comes out the cleanest.

Much respect Em!

As a parent, I could not be any more proud. When I look back at what Emma has accomplished, I can't help but notice how much she responded to coaches who coached and teachers who taught. Everyone should be so lucky to have people in their lives who support and nurture them to help them reach their potential. Because of these people (and you know who you are), I don't look at this as an end of an era but a just a great start to an even longer one. I can't wait to see what happens with Emma and with the others who have shared this fantastic opportunity.

Well said Mr. Wonsil. Em you are a role model and an inspiration for everyone you meet, including myself. I cannot wait to see what you are capable of in the big leagues at AQ! And I am looking forward to coming in second in many workouts in the summer before you transform into a super witch doctor down the road.
