Athlete of the Week: Mrs. Nevarez

Who has the best lawn on your street? Can you picture what their grass looks like right now, maybe cut in a checkerboard pattern, undetectable trimming around trees and bricks, edges sliced in a line that would never appear anywhere in nature?
Now, if it's not too much effort, take a look outside at their lawn right now. How does it actually look in real life? Is it as perfect as you imagined it or are there any stray parts? Does the sun hiding behind the clouds make it look less heavenly? Are there indents from kids, basketballs, dogs, or bicycles?
The truth is, there is a good chance the dude with "the best lawn on your street" rarely, at any point in time, actually has the best lawn on the street, but rather is the most consistent with the upkeep, holding the highest standard for what a messy lawn looks like. Think about all the factors that go into making a lawn look the way it does: water, animals, temperature, sun, season - all those things are largely out of your neighbor's control, and insisting on constant perfection would have your neighbor outside 24 hours day and night with pruning shears and an ice tea, trimming individual grass blades and shooing off bunny rabbits. You can plainly see in lawn care, sports, or life, in general, that it is unrealistic to be "ahead of pace" every day, week, or even year.
It can't always be your time, dude. Just stay consistent enough to be ready when it is.
In the 6(!) years's time Mrs. Nevarez has called the Champions Club her home, for whatever reason spring 2024 seemed to be her time; a mixture of attendance, demeanor, and workout intensity put her heavily in the running for Athlete of the Spring - which is saying a lot given the current state of competition here. Much like your neighbor's lawn, there are tons of factors at play that have nothing to do with deadlift form and pull-up rhythm, factors like family, school, sports, and faith. It appears the last three months saw an alignment of all those things for Mrs. Nevarez that carried over into her first week of Summer 2024. We know she's always been fit, always been athletic, and always been a reliable serving of corn on the cob for our community. But maaaannn, there's something different this time around.
Keep up the great work kiddo!
