Guest Post: Take a Quick Look in the Mirror

by, Mrs. Nevarez

Alright…before this post gets started lets set the mood. Close your eyes and picture this. Well…maybe don’t close your eyes because then you can’t read the post… but you get me. You’re at the box…loosened up after a nice, little August 800m run, Chris has detailed out the workout and answered all questions with patience…sound about right?! You are locked in and ready. All of a sudden a shriek, cry, and a couple “leave me alone” and “shut up” phrases are screamed from the turf. Can you guess who it is? Yup…another tantrum from the one and only Johnny Jay. I mean…WHERE DOES HE GET THIS FROM?

I’ve got another little Champions Club scenario. It’s a beautiful Saturday morning in the summer and we are at the box for “Cops and Robbers”, a brand new theme workout and we are all excited for what’s to come. Fast forward 15 or so minutes and the sharking has begun. Out of the blue, in a beautiful effort to grow the community vibe we all hold so dear, someone pops the random items I’m caring back to the safe zone, right out of my arms, and they go flying. What ever items I still had in my hand I throw to the ground in a fit and swear words fly out of my mouth a little too easily. My very own adult-size tantrum. WHERE DOES HE GET IT FROM? And Mr. Mark was close enough to witness the whole thing… he felt so badly he gave me a little grace a few minutes later and let me by with no sharking! Thank you!

Oh geez… it’s not easy looking in the mirror. Our kids are sponges, and because they most likely have spent the most time with us over their time in existence, it only make sense that they learn from and essentially mimic who WE are. Gah…sometimes when we see the way they handle situations like tough workouts or the way they talk to themselves, we get frustrated and maybe even expect more… it’s only fair we take a quick look in the mirror and ask ourselves:

Where did they get it from?

Where did that lack of confidence stem from?

Why can’t they push through some of these challenges, I know they are more than capable.

I am here to tell you…and if you don’t want to believe me…believe Chris, he asked me to share this….YOU ARE CAPABLE. Tell yourself how strong you are, you got this, just one more rep or any other phrase you would tell your son or daughter to encourage them in a tough situation. How you talk to YOURSELF, how you respect yourself, how you treat yourself matters people… not only for you, but for those little and not so little sponges walking around.

P.S. How many days until Champions Club summer?
