Campus Improv Eats: The Limiting Factor

Here is a picture from the 5th round of Tuesday's TGU/run workout.
Here's the breakdown:
- Bubs - AOTS 2012, hasn't played a competitive sport since 2014, great CrossFit attendance since fall
- Cecilia - AOTS 2021, NCAA champion/POY in the fall, great CrossFit attendance since January
Here's the other breakdown:
- Bubs's lunch - 4 blocks of protein, 2 block of carbs, 8 blocks of fat
- Bubs's snack on the way to the gym - 1 block of protein, 1 block of carbs, 1 block of fat
- Cecilia's lunch - didn't eat lunch
- Cecilia's snack on the way to the gym - maybe biting her fingernails?
Verdict. So there's gotta be this thing that goes through any of our kids' minds: something along the lines of "If I lose a workout, it better be to another competitive athlete." That's why I am unrelenting on Anto when he loses to Mr. Mark in a run, or Dillon if she's losing to Mrs. Tara on burpees. Those thoughts need to stay, and no, it's not okay for Cecilia to lose to Bubs in a workout like Tuesday. But the context of it can give a lot of clarity, to me, at least. Cec was ahead by about 5 seconds in round 1, 3 seconds in round 2, even Steven in round 3, then in round 4 and 5 is when Bubs pulled away. I don't call that a lack of effort, just a lack of fuel. Bubs has had her nutrition locked in since February and it shows; Cecilia is moving as fast as her body is allowing her.
Next time. At some point Mrs. Van and Mrs. Nevarez and Mrs. Hana are going to get sick enough of Mrs. Tara kicking their ass in the workouts that they'll turn their nutrition around for good. At some point Jessica, Dillon, Cecilia, Tea, and Jaylee are going to get sick enough of Bubs kicking their ass in the workouts that they'll pick two meals that can always be balanced and stick to it no matter what. At some point Aaron is going to get sick enough of me kicking his ass in workouts that he'll stop drinking five Bang energy drinks for breakfast. At some point one... just one(!)... of the dads is going to get their shit together for more than a month so they can pull ahead of the rest of the pack and become the envy of everyone else.
When is next time? Timing is huge. I promise I understand. Bubs is finally settled into a job-job and is getting paid enough to buy her own food; Mrs. Tara went through a transition at work where she could subtract energy going to useless stuff and put it towards her health; my entire life revolves around health and everything else sacrifices. So many factors like kids, parents, school, work, information/understanding, social life (so I've heard), and sports can make it more challenging to keep nutrition as the priority. It's also my job to keep the pressure on you guys. It's never not worked: There's a small group of athletes that are roughly even, one of them gets their food right, and they distance themselves. Bubs is there right now. Who's next?
