Coach's Corner: Range of Motion on Squats

For quite a few years now I've kinda viewed range of motion as a progression more than a set standard. This comes down to the simple fact that movements are general, but they become specific when some dude decides to turn them into a formal workout to help accomplish a task.
For example, squatting in general happens in real life in an endless variation of shapes and ranges of motion; in the weight room it happens in a very robotic way with a constant set of man-made standards. Back squats are good, and the better you get at them, the more range of motion you can add to challenge the goodness of said squat.
Below we have Conamora, Jaylee, and Reese, as well as Maggie Good, who is a Rookie this Summer. All are squatting at different ranges of motion based on where they're at in their ability, but (for the most part) keeping the universal and non-manmade standards of squatting in tact.
Midline stability, loading order and laws of torque; controlling your spine, making sure the hips move first, and keeping external rotation from the hip to the foot are standards no matter what kind of squatting you are doing. Getting your hips below parallel is not.
