Campus Improv Eats: Not Just the Food

Got this picture from Mr. Kuiper last night for his dinner:

Here's the breakdown:

  • Protein: Pulled pork, cheese
  • Carbohydrate: Noodles
  • Fat: n/a, though there is surely some in the pork and cheese

Win or loss: Not bad, Kuiper, not bad! Not only does it look tasty but it looked balanced as well; a good heaping mound of meat and while the noodles are unfavorable, the small-ish portion size probably won't put you overboard on carbohydrate. So I'd call this a w-

Hol' up. It's trying to do something here. Yes, I think there's another picture uploading.

Oh... well this changes things:

This is wine. Now a young St. Dennis lad I was led to believe that any wine spoken to in a certain way would instantly become the blood of Christ, which would be considered... uh... protein? But it really doesn't matter because when fellow 2nd-grader Blaise Raona asked how much we were supposed to drink, Mrs. Ramos replied, "A SIP, CHILD! A SINGLE FREAKING SIP! ANYTHING ELSE WILL SPIKE YOUR INSULIN AND STEER YOU OFF THE PATH OF RIGHTEOUSNESS!"

So yeah, unless Mr. Kuiper was enacting the eucharist from home, this glass of wine (combined with the noodles) likely put him over the top on carbohydrate. And at any rate, I heard from a few different presenters at the Health Conference in 2019 that alcohol - even "low-carb" versions - can't be stored effectively by our bodies. So it throws our balance off.

Next time. We just gotta keep in mind what we are drinking. Doing all the work to cook, prepare, and portion out a meal has the potential to be undone by having pop, gatorade, beer, wine, or anything else that isn't water or milk. In this case, Mr. Kuiper would need to pick either the noodles or the wine, and preferably pick the noodles. If there's a case where you give into temptation, ditch any other carbohydrate or just call it a cheat meal.
