Last night I got a call from Jake Malak talking about how his back and knee were bothering him after baseball. When I asked him what he's done for it so far he said "couch stretch, quad mashing, and hip capsule for 5 minutes each. But none of those really helped."
Believe it or not, all of those helped me a lot! It meant that I could cross them off the list as potential causes. Jake doing those on his own saved some time when he came in this morning, as the first thing I would have done for him would have been quad smashing. We ended up doing some QL/oblique smashing and end-range hip stuff that worked well.
Kelly Starrett is the single reason why everyone knows how to take a lacrosse ball and put it on a trouble spot. He's a former CF gym owner and a Physical Therapist who had this belief that "every human being should be able to perform basic maintenance on themself." In other words, if Jake Malak's back and knee are bothering him, he needs to have the tools to take a crack at fixing it himself before going to see someone, and that's exactly what he did.
Any time something is bothering you, pick two mobility drills we've done in here and do them for 5 minutes each. If they help, sweet! If not, it helps me eliminate things when you come in for help.
