New Kids on the Block: Wesley and Jaiden

I'm late on these, but in April we had three New Kids go through tryouts and two of them made it through to the group, where they have both been consistent ever since.

First up is Wesley Ritter, a freshman at Lamphere who plays baseball with Koltin and Josh. Mr. Van introduced me to the Ritter family at the Athens-Lamphere game  and Wesley came in on April 16 for his first session.

I thought I had a picture of Wes doing a back squat but apparently I don't

Wes has been surprisingly talkative when someone else initiates the conversation and has really picked up his form on stuff quicker than I expected. As of now he doesn't play any other sports and doesn't play travel ball so I think we'll see him excel in the CrossFit setting if he can keep this consistency going.

Next up we have Jaiden Melton, who came to us through a recommendation someone I coach basketball with. Jaiden is a football-first 8th grader from River Rouge and came in for the first time on April 19.

Despite the drive, Jaiden's has not missed a single weekday so far and his improvements are already showing - especially on Olympic lifts and double unders (pictured above).  I think the potential is really high with this one if he can keep up the consistency he's already established. He's about as quiet as it gets at the moment, which should also work itself out over time.

Both Wesley and Jaiden represent different additions to the Champions Club: Wesley is the local underdog-type who is known as a hard worker and, to be honest, really doesn't have anything else to do but come here, while Jaiden comes from a far, distant land where he is known as a good football player already (and basketball, too), but needs to develop the work ethic to go with it. While neither of them might jump out as superstars right away, I am really excited to have both of these kids on board, and that's not just me typing that to say something polite, either. I think they could be two foundational pieces to the young generation here.

Welcome to the Champions Club kids!
