One-Year Anniversary: Mr. Mark and Lily

by, Mr. Van and Conamora

...........

Back in February 2021, Chris came to us dads in The Champions Club and said he has some good news and some not so good news.  Chris told us that he just signed on a 5-star middle school athlete named Lilly, but the only way she would join us, is if we took on her 2-star elementary school gym teacher dad as well, who is also a big time MSU fan. Us dads, already being the strongest group in The Champions Club, agreed to take on the challenge of adding Mr. Mark to our group.

Little did we know, Mr. Mark would turn out to be a CrossFit stud from day one. He is built for this stuff. What really stood out right away was the way he runs so effortlessly. Over his first year he’s added tons of new accomplishments to his CrossFit resume, a few of which include legless rope climbs, handstand push-ups, strict pull-ups, etc. etc.  The other day I saw a photo of him throwing ol’red around in a kb swing workout. Ol’red is nearly half his body weight. Although that was impressive, I must add the ultimate highlight of his first year was his contribution to team Bruce Almighty, which had the highest attendance for the summer of 2021, not to mention it was the highest attendance rate The Champions Club has ever seen. With the many strengths Mr. Mark has, he does have one downfall other than being an MSU fan. He has a fear of falling, which I can 100% relate to. Hopefully in the years to come we can both defeat that fear.

All joking aside, Mr. Mark is one of the greatest additions to our CrossFit family.  He always has a smile on his face and never fails to give support when needed. He is one of the most genuine guys I know. We are all so grateful he’s a part of The Champions Club. Congrats on your one year, here’s to many more!

...........

I’ve always loved coming to CrossFit because of the people! Of course, some of the workouts we do are odious, but when I am doing them with The Monkeys, they are more pleasant!

When I saw Lily Cavataio walk through those doors, I knew she was a perfect match for our exhibit! Another soccer player I could practice with, and she was there to make everyone better! I could not have chosen anyone else.

When Lily walks into the gym in the morning with a messy bun and sleepy eyes, it reminded me of myself, hating to wake up in the morning on a Saturday for an 8am workout. (Thank goodness, Coach Chris changed it to 10) Even if she maybe didn’t want to come, she still came, showing dedication to working out. As soon as the workout starts, Lily is on it! She always works hard no matter what and always pushes me to me better! I was so proud of Lily for getting her first pull-up in the summer and even more proud when she hit 115-lbs on a 3-rep max deadlift!

Besides Lily being a great athlete and hard worker, she is an amazing friend! When I met her when I was 8 years old, I just knew her as “Lulu’s friend from school.” Now at 13, she's gone from “Lulu’s friend” to one of my good friends. When we play The Wall, sometimes Lily is stuck on the wall for a long time. We whack volleyballs and kick soccer balls at her really hard, but she is always a good sport at it! I can always count on Lily no matter what I need.

Congratulations on reaching one year here at the Champions Club!
