If you ever found yourself thinking, Man, what I need in my life right now is some 5th grade church league girls basketball! then Whoa Nelly you are in for a treat - the kind of treats in your grandma's cookie jar that were on clearance at the grocery store and turned stale but you'll still have them because they're the only option. To give you an idea of what to expect at churchleague basketball, I am going to use Finding Nemo as a lens.

What does it mean if you haven't seen Finding Nemo by now? Lily, Lulu, Monkeys, you can fill in the blank. It's one of the greatest movies of all time and a solid 8.1 according to IMDB. It's a movie that appeals to young kids with quirky characters, older kids with nostalgic quotes, and parents with the constant theme of empowering their kids. It has stood the test of time and technology and is just as relevant today as it was in 2003 when it was released.

Then when I was in 10th grade our religion teacher at Foley made us watch Finding Nemo in class and find the 7 sacraments "hidden" in it. And this, too, is churchleague basketball: the greatest sport in the world with a forced theme of religion. I was part of it too growing up.

But this churchleague basketball has something different. It has Mallory, Dita, and Carmen causing pain and destruction all around them on the court, and Coach Casey prowling the sidelines verbally berading officials and throwing chairs. Their next game is this Saturday at 1 pm at Woodside Bible Church on Rochester. It will feature Mr. Gjon commentating the game from the sidelines and Mr. Mark taking side bets from any spectators and Mrs. Tara snacking on cheese sticks and grass. God help you if you miss it.
