Race Day Recap

Matt Fecht, Jarrod, and I made our way Downtown early yesterday morning to find Tim and Marianne at the start of their race. We lost Matt right off the rip - who brought his bike along and was off somewhere doing workout things. But Jarrod and I ran into Marianne first. She was in the middle of group D and somehow spotted us.

After she went through, Tim's group (G) shuffled towards the starting line as he caught a glimpse of myself and Jarrod (still no Matt).

Marianne was running the full marathon and was aiming for a sub-4 hour time. She ended up crossing the finish line at 4:12 and was not happy with her finish time. But a little before the halfway point, she was considering dropping out and stopping at the half-marathon finish point, but she decided to stick with it. Considering none of us have the drive to participate in a full marathon, any finish time is impressive.

Tim, on the other hand, was running in the half marathon. To my knowledge this was his first race, period. I definitely questioned his decision to jump right into a half marathon and not like a 5 or 10k, but we worked together on a pre-race plan and running technique. Things turned out well for Tim, seeing as he finished in 2:33 sporting his Champions Club Summer 2016 shirt along the way. His goal was to not walk during the race. And aside from the transition time at hydration stations, he met his goal.

Nice work to both of you. I'd say you earned at least a week of in-season workouts.
