One-Year Anniversary: Sydney, Mrs. Burton, Mr. Andrew

Last year we had three great additions to the Champions Club in the late-Summer/early-Fall: Sydney Larson on August 10, Mrs. Burton on September 3, and Mr. Andrew on September 4. So instead of me writing about them, Erica, Mrs. Hana, and Mr. Malak decided to type a few words in their honor. Enjoy!

Sydney Larson

It’s hard to identify Sydney Larson’s first day at the Champions Club. Was it a year ago, two years ago, 5 years ago? According to Chris it has been a year, but I still question his record keeping skills. Sydney showed up one day at 4:30 and as most do decided it was the best session ever created and never left. She has been a great addition to the group and gets along with everyone, it’s always a good session when she’s there. No one knows exactly where she came from, some rumors rolling around are China, The Bermuda Triangle, Indiana, Antarctica, and even right around the block from the Champions Club.

No matter where she came from, we are glad to have her here with us. Sydney rocks any workout handed to her even when her height gives her a disadvantage. Things like a 235-lb. deadlift, 145-lb. power clean, and can't leave out her first pistol, rope climb, and pull-up. Don’t forget that good looking L-sit, which I am quite jealous of. You get it girl! Glad you’re here and hope you stick around for the long haul!

Mrs. Burton

by, Mrs. Hana

Around this time last year, Chris introduced Mrs. Burton as a newbie to the Champions Club family, asking that we warm up together. Quiet yet friendly, I watched over first couple of weeks as she continued to learn all aspects of CrossFit workouts. Soon, she became a fixture around 32301 Stephenson Hwy, attending sessions every day. Flashforward to a year later, and Mrs. Burton, aka Tori, is passing the 1 year mark of having been a CC athlete. That means that, despite Chris (jk😉), she remains, and I can’t imagine her ever NOT being a part of the Champions Club crew. In all honesty, if you’ve gotten to know Mrs. Burton, like AT ALL, you’ve quickly found out that she is committed to her health and wellness, loves almost any type of workout thrown at her, and she gives 110% always - the perfect set of ingredients for the makings of a Champions Club member. Oh-and she has a competitive streak in her, mostly aimed at just improving her own workouts, but she gives others a run for their money too. That makes Chris like her just a little bit extra too😉

In the past year, I have watched her unrelenting work towards her goals, knocking many of them off her checklist (rope climbs are just one that come to mind). I am impressed at the level of perseverance with which she conducts her workouts. Often, when we have workouts that push us to our limits, she doesn’t just finish the workout. She finishes them STRONGER than when she started. Our hill workout this past Sunday is a prime example of this. From run 1 to run 3, her sprints only got better each time, with her best effort and run coming with the third and final sprint. Her “give it all you’ve got” attitude is catching, motivating, and pushes me in my workouts too.

I’m so glad that Mrs. Burton walked into the gym last summer, and even more thrilled that she’s stuck around. I can’t imagine this place without her and my only question is, When’s that handstand walk happening, Mrs. Burton?

Happy One Year Anniversary!!

Mr. Andrew

It was about a year ago when I was lying on the floor dying from a workout. I looked out the door into a bright ray of sunlight when all of the sudden out of the shadow walked in this 6'4 man and all I can see is his glow through the sunlight. At this point I thought it was God coming for me.

As he entered the building and i cleared my vision I saw Mr. Andrew. Thankful it wasn't God, Chris introduced the new member. I thought, Who is this thoroughbred? He looked like he was here to kick ass or chew bubble gum (and we were out of gum.) When I met him and talked for awhile I soon realized this guy is a Big Ol Teddy Bear.  While doing sessions and getting to know Mr. Andrew then meeting his family, it became obvious Chris hit a homerun with this family; they are genuinely some of the nicest people on earth. The positive comments and encouraging words makes me believe that Mr. Andrew and his family have been nothing but a positive addition to the Cult. I look forward to checking the boxes with Mr. Andrew for years to come.

HAPPY 1-YEAR ANNIVERSARY!
