










If you're like me and am a total nerd about the Olympics, you're keeping your fingers crossed that Brazilian infrastructure and Zika aren't going to keep all the athletes away. One of the cool things about joining CrossFit is being able to understand the weightlifting portion of the Games. I mean, they always look heavy and scary, but once you've been in here you know the real names of those Olympic lifts and how hard they are. Hell, you can even pretend to know some things about technique. Pretty soon, it's gonna be time to annoy all your friends and family with your knowledge of this:
Now, you may know all the lifts and how they're supposed to be done right and all that, but you might stumble over the weight itself. For reasons still unclear to me, the US is still operating under not metric (here is my public plea to the US that we need to switch). Not only does it drive a science person crazy, but it makes it a little difficult to realize how much weight these guys are lifting. Unless you're Matt Morrow. So for your Rio 2016 viewing convenience, I have included this conversion for you.
So no, this 100 lb guy did not lift 412 lbs total. This 231 lb pound guy lifted 908 lbs between his clean and jerk and his snatch. So if you wanted to feel more inadequate about your lifts, there ya go.
