Athlete of the Week: Erica (Not that Erica)

We have another Erica who has been making an impact on the Champions Club this Summer: this one is Erica Slade and she's a 6th grade standout from the Rookies session. She's our Athlete of the Week!

Erica is the daughter of Mr. Slade and plays volleyball, soccer, and basketball, and despite being unsure about keeping with the whole CrossFit thing early on, Erica has been doing great as of late and just saw her best week so far.

On Sunday she was partnered up with Mrs. Carey and showed a much-improved overhead squat position, as well as push-ups. On Tuesday the 9 am session did 4 rounds of 40 lunges and 400m run: Erica put in a good time and was finally stopped running on her heels. On Wednesday her clean form looked great even though it was her first time using a bar (I can't remember exactly, but I think she used 45 lbs), and Thursday her burpees and jump ropes looked good for the 3 rounds/2-minutes of each. And today she lived (I assuming, I haven't checked back yet, though) through her first Hill workout.

There are a few highlights for her outside of workouts too. First, she came in on Wednesday and Friday without her dad, which is a good sign she's taking responsibility of her own fitness. Secondly, she really got out of her comfort zone yesterday with handstands and ended up crash landing on a few freestanding attempts, but she never got discouraged and kept trying them. And finally, her and the rest of the Monkey Exhibit soccer kids won the championship for their Greg Grant league on Wednesday night, where Erica used up 4 of her 5 fouls! She's an up and coming Bill Laimbeer.

Keep up the good work Erica.
