Athlete of the Week: Mr. Ron

Geology is the study of pressure, time.

That's all it takes, really.

Pressure...

and time.

There are times when you know someone is a right fit within the first minute of an interaction.

I was first introduced to Mr. Ron in early 2018 when Mrs. Teri brought in her soccer team to rent out the turf in the back; Mr. Ron did all the paperwork and recordkeeping stuff to help out. That was one of those times.

Three years later when Mrs. Teri brought in her soccer team to join the 2021 Rookie session, I was reintroduced to Mr. Ron as Ashlyn's dad. That was another one of those times.

In the middle of June Mr. Ron came in after the 11 am session had finished and asked about some foot pain he'd been experiencing, so we stood on a roller and talked for about 10 minutes and his feet were fixed. That was another one of those times.

The very next day he came in asking to jump in the workout with Ashlyn; at first I said no ( because it was max effort) but then I changed my mind a second later. After the session he talked to me about wanting to jump in the group 3-4 days a week, and I gave him the green light under the condition that he write down what he eats every day and bring it in. It's been... 35ish?... days since then and Mr. Ron has not missed a single one of them and has three stacks of food papers ranked "Good," "Medium," and "Bad," to go with it. This week saw him running with a quicker cadence, going butt-back in squats, not pulling with his arms on cleans or kb swings, taking partner pistols slow and controlled, and going all-out in Sharking efforts.

But more than that, what Mr. Ron has been so far - this week especially - is a heel-striking Morgan Freeman narration. When the time is right, and when the right kind of pressure is present, big changes will happen. Luckily for the Champions Club, we are reaping the benefit of having another dedicated dad in our mix.
