Athlete of the Week: Coach Casey

Sometimes coaches will find awards for players they like but haven't really done enough to get MVP or Most Improved, and sometimes committees will give seasonal awards to players as more of a lifetime achievement trophy.

Coach Casey is my guy because he knows who Tremaine Folks is, and he has been the mayor of the Champions Club since 2018 because of how well he connects to everyone.

This is no pity award; he is Athlete of the Week because the mofo earned every bit of it!

Coming off a knee surgery that required another knee surgery is something I can't relate to in the slightest, and the temptation to stay ultra conservative was always there. This led to a frustration on both our ends and a very passive aggressive last year. This is not last year.

This week Coach Casey deadlifted 295, did lunges, and went back to the Hill that put the finishing touches on his knee and sprinted up that thing 5 times. Most importantly, he did all those things with a confidence that I haven't seen from him in a very long time. I've always said I've never met a tough person from Berkley. I still stand behind that, but this week, and really the entire Summer, Coach Casey has gone a long way to disprove that stereotype. I am reminded of how much better the Champions Club is with Coach Casey - this Coach Casey - part of it.

Keep up the good work my man!

This is really cool and appreciated. It's been a long year and a half, but I couldn't have gotten through it without all of the encouragement from everyone. I have never had a long term injury before these surgeries, and the only thing that kept me from quitting the gym for a while was all of the positive words that came from countless Champions Clubbers. Don't ever discount the power that a small encouraging comment has. As Chris says "we got a good group y'all".

@Chris - While I appreciate this, don't you dare trash the mean streets of Berkley. Besides me and Mr. Carey, Berkley claims the great Curtis Armstrong among our alumni. Armstrong is famous for his role as "Booger" in Revenge of the Nerds, as well as "Snot" in American Dad. So that's uh something. I know you aren't calling Mr. Carey and Booger soft.
