Why the Cloth?

Holding a cloth or other soft object between our feet can help improve our jumping and landing positions. But why do we continue to have you practicing jumps with it even when your feet consistently land together? Check this out.

Kelly Starrett calls it "the tunnel," Carl calls it the "transition positions." Either way, it's those few seconds between positions, or poses, that many mistakes occur. In the video Alison has a great position 1 (takeoff) and position 2 (landing.) However, in that transition position, her feet come apart for a split second. While it didn't affect her landing in this particular workout, it would have showed were there higher reps - or in movements where connection is removed such as pull-ups (back swing) or running.

The Tunnel- Kelly Starrett

So that's something to start considering. It's not just your start and finish. But the tunnel is also important.
