One thing I wish I would have added in The Sports Post under the football section is their unique approach to games: you get one game a week, that's it. And sometimes a week where you get to skip your game. (Playing Rutgers used to be considered an additional bye week as well, and it appears that is not the case any more.)
This means that the days playing football on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are done in preparation for Saturday, and Sunday is meant as a recovery from the Saturday's effort. You only win practice if it means making progress for something else.
...........
Take a look at all the relevant "for quality" workouts since the last time we did Fran:
8/30 - 2 minutes of push presses
8/27 - front squat/handstand practice
8/2 - a good dose of strict pull-ups
8/15 - run/dumbbell strict press
... or the max effort days that weren't truly "max effort" but rather practice with some weight and some rest:
9/7 - strict press that made everyone's abs and butt sore
7/30 - deadlift and heavy breathing
And that doesn't count workouts with Ricky Reps on strict pull-ups and other practice stations mixed into the regular metcon.
We had tons or prs - both on overall time and consecutive pull-ups (Mr. Van did 12 in a row on the first set). If you are happy with your time today (happy in the sense that if you get a filling you're happy the dentist did the correct tooth) then I can't help but point to those "for quality" workout that you could have easily checked the box on but instead made a great practice day. Games are usually a reflection of how you practice, and my initial observation is that, overall, practice has been going very, very well.
If you didn't pr, or didn't get the effort you wanted, that's okay too. Out of almost 40 people today, I can't remember one person who I would say didn't get what they were supposed to out of it; Anto, Erica, Mrs. Van, and Mr. Carey all had the Fran lung afterwards. They gave most of what was available to them at that time. It's odd that sometimes expected prs don't happen and unexpected prs do. There are so many different factors that go into getting a pr that our best bet is to prepare as well as we can in practice and hope things line up when the game comes.
Great work, y'all!
