Theme Workout Announcement: Christmas Workout 2018

Six months ago we were almost a week into our most populated Summer of all time. As the weeks progressed it was apparent the gym was going about as well as it's ever been. The Summer is something I always have in my plans, no matter what month it is. But not far behind is Christmas break. We've already seen a few college kids come home, and with more expected on the way it should be a fun couple weeks. At the core of these few weeks is our annual Christmas Workout Spectacular. As usual, it will be on Monday, December 24 at 9 am. This workout usually lasts a little bit over an hour because there are actually three mini-workouts included: Christmas Eve Commotion, The Magi Mile, and Twelve Days of Burpees. Afterwards we usually have waffles, cookies, milk, and other assostments of unfavorable sugary carbohydrates.

The pride of our Athletes of the Summers right here.In the past we've also done Secret Santa and card/board games after the workout, so if anyone wants to set that up feel free. This workout is open to any and all Champions Club college kids, as well as our Babies and middle school crew, so hopefully we can get a turnout like last year. I bought some extra wallballs and we have extra floor space this time around.

One thing coaching the Babies session has taught me is it's usually better to have less of something and keep them wanting more than to go overboard on it. This is what I try to do with Theme Workouts in the Summer, and this is also why I think Christmas Break goes over so well. We get to see the people we haven't seen since August in short, 1-hour (or more) snippets, and it lasts for about 2 weeks. Even Nick Bewick and Danielle Woorden would seem pleasant and enjoyable in those short doses. We get to see the best of Ricky Carey, Alyssa Jabara, Lindsey Eason, and Kris Campbell. If that doesn't lighten your mood, then nothing will.

I hope you guys (and myself) really take a sec to appreciate the Community we have and enjoy the people that make the Champions Club what it is. Even kids who have left for other gyms will swear up and down that no place matches what we have here. If things fall right, I think this Christmas could be our best one yet. So recruit those lazy session-mates of yours and let's have a great two weeks!

Monday. 9 am. See you there!

Thanksgiving Workout 2018 Recap

What a session! For the second year in a row, we exceeded 30 people in attendance our annual Thanksgiving Workout. 32 was the magic number today - well, 33 if you count Saporito coming in late as usual. We made use of the turf side to host the crowded workout and once we got rolling everything went pretty smooth.

Theme Workout Announcement: Halloween 2018

Now that the Summer is over, our theme workouts come up only on holidays. The first one of the school year is our Halloween workout. In the past, the high school and college kids have dressed up, Trick-or-Treated for an hour or so, and came back to hit the workout. Last year we brought it back with some of our Babies session on a short notice. This year I want to get ahead of the game a bit.

Our Halloween workout will be on Wednesday, October 31 from 5:30 till 7(ish) pm. Kids will Trick-or-Treat during our mobility session, then do a small workout afterwards. Like I said, last year was just the Babies who participated, but any of the middle school or high school kids (or College kids) can participate as well. In order to work out, you have to Trick or Treat.

Theme Workouts from the Vault

Around this time of year, the Champions Club has traditionally done two of our school-year theme workouts: Super Bowl and Valentine's day. For the second year in a row, we did not do the Super Bowl workout, but once we get the numbers back up we will be sure to bring it back. It will be difficult, however, to top the classic 2014 Super Bowl workout during the prime years for The Freaks. We had a crazy tiebreaker, a fishing battle, a chick-fight with Amy and Bubs, and the only sin Aaron Augustyn has ever committed was caught on video.

Later that month we did Anita Partyka's Valentine's Day Heartbreaker - a workout where teams are given cards to play on their opponents. Highlights from the last round can be seen below.

This one is not out of the running yet for this year. Stay tuned..

Christmas Workout Results, Highlights, and Photos

Welp, this morning the Christmas crew set a Champions Club record for the most athletes in a single session. With a total of 36 in attendance (37 if you include Mrs. Fitz on the Marc Pro), we had a packed house for our 9th annual Christmas workout.

Sabal bounced quick, and is not pictured

The Thanksgiving workout proved to be a good testing grounds for the Babies crew, because they came in today calm and collective and at complete ease with our big crowd. They modified the wallballs, trading them for plate jumps, and alternated rounds on the twelve days of burpees. Otherwise they did everything as prescribed. On the big kids side of things, we had a return of Bromm, Big Kris, Lindsey, and Erika Banet. Rookies Nick Bewick, Danielle Woorden, Josh Howey, and Emma Demonaco all made their first Christmas appearance. And Erica freaking Krueger/Gibbons drove in from an hour away just to work out with us.

Speaking of the workout, we modified things a bit for the Magi Mile and Twelve Days of Burpees. For the Magi Mile, we did 30 mountain climbers instead of 45 - partly due to the even number/simplicity of it, and partially due to the mountain climber fiasco "recovery" workout from last Sunday that left the hip flexors of all 10 in attendance served medium rare (mine are still sore). And we skipped on the running and mountain climbers for the Twelve Days of Burpees and had each partner do each number of burpees.

The winning team this year was Ricky Carey and David Saporito.

With sit-ups that barely constituted "touching bands" and knee push-ups from Slick Rick, it's no surprise they pulled out the victory over Jacob and Jay. The final standings and full photo gallery can be seen below.

And for good measure, we have highlights from the Twelve Days of Burpees.

Thank you guys so much for the turnout today! It really makes my day, and probably week, to see our family mesh like this. We had people like Mama V, Bubs, and Mrs. Carey in attendance who were around for the very first Christmas workout, lots of other Champions Club veterans and rookies, and including the Babies session adds a lot to the energy in the building. On top of all this, I think a special shoutout is necessary for Katie Shakes, who has done more behind the scenes to make this event run smoothly than you guys will ever know. She's the real deal, kids.

Thank you again, and tomorrow is at 11 am for anyone wanting to mobilize or make up a workout they missed. Hope to see you there. And to keep tradition, here's some happy trees and titanuim white for the soul.
