Shark Week/Hawaiian Theme Workout Recap

What a great workout this morning!

We started with a drizzle around 10 am while we were setting things up in the cars, but by the time we got to the hill all precipitation stopped unfortunately. Still, the soaked grass provided a great setting for the return of our Shark Week/Hawaiian Mashup. Other than the drizzle stopping, things fell perfectly for this workout. We had 20 kids on the dot, teams paired up really well, and the sharking zone was shrinked to keep the feeding frenzy as intense as possible.

The winning team this year came from the dynamic duo of Shakes and Fry!

The shark suit did not last the entire workout for obvious reasons, but Shakes was responsible for the most shark attacks during the sharking station, which surely helped her cause. And Fry is getting back into Fry form as well. Usually we do 4 rounds of this workout, but everyone was pretty emphatic that 3 would be just fine this time around, so we kept it there. Also, shouts to 10 am rookies Emily and Abby Walker, NuNu Diattara, and Noah Heide for participating in their first Champions Club Theme Workout!

Next week's theme will be announced in the coming days. Great job to everyone and keep this Saturday momentum going!

Saturday Highlights: Jurassic Park Theme Workout

Yesterday marked the return of our Jurassic Park Theme Workout - which debuted back in Summer 2015 - and had a total of 17 in attendance! Two weeks in a row of great Theme Workout attendance definitely makes me less of a cranky elf. We modified this one a bit; changed clean & jerks to just cleans, and did 2 reps before rotating instead of just 1. We also did the full minute on the second rotation. Due to the numbers, there were short transition times after the dinosaur attacks to get us organized.

The winning team was Murley and Fry!

Danielle and Cecilia were close in second place, followed by a few other teams. We even got a surprise guest appearance from Pat! Overall it turned out pretty well given the complexity of this workout compared to, say, 80s or Disney. Big ups to everyone that showed up! I'll keep you guys posted on when the next theme is.

Theme Workout Announcement: Jurassic Smash 2.0

This weekend will mark the return of our Jurassic Smash Theme Workout, which originated back in Summer 2015 and is coming up in honor of the new Jurassic World movie that came out. A group of our kids went to see it a little over a week ago:

You can see the format for the workout here. We might be making a change or two, or maybe not, but either way you can expect a good workout.

Due to some people having work, we're going to get started with the workout right at 10 am. The gym will be open before that (probably 9:30 or so) to get anything resembling a warmup if you so desire.

Saturday Highlights: SpongeBob Theme Workout

If you were in attendance on Sunday, you were in for a real treat of a workout. Our SpongeBob Theme went down with no speed bumps and posted 19 people in attendance. Here's a video recap. Shouts to Murley for chopping it up!

Great job to everyone who showed up! Stay posted to see if we have another Theme Workout coming this Saturday...

SpongeBob Theme Workout Recap

Our first Theme Workout of the Summer was definitely worth the wait, as we had 19 people in attendance this morning for our first ever SpongeBob Theme Workout. A workout video mashup will be posted tomorrow most likely, but in essence we split the group into pairs, with each pair belonging to one restaurant: The Krusty Krab or the Chum Bucket. They went through three stations at 3 minutes each, then three relay races to cap it off. Whichever team's pairs had the highest/fastest scores for each segment wins the workout and the Krabby Patty Secret Formula.

The winning team this year was the Krusty Krab!

While they did not get perfect synchronization on the Dutchman's Treasure Hunt, they managed enough reps to beat Shannon and the rest of the Chum Bucket's crew.

Like I said, the workout video mashup will most likely be posted tomorrow, but we did manage to get a lot of good pictures. And the workout results will also be updated, but are posted.

Battle for the Secret Formula Workout Results

Binno also made a special guest appearance to the workout today, rocking a mustache worthy of any of those Overly Manly Man memes. But it was great to see him around again.

Lastly, due to the great turnout today, I will watch one episode of SpongeBob this weekend. So which one should I watch?

Weekend Workout Schedule Update

Tradition has usually been the second Saturday in each Summer is the unveiling of a new Theme Workout. That will not be the case this weekend, we'll be just having a regular team workout. I already have the theme and general layout of our new Theme Workout, but I just want to get an idea of the numbers we'll have on Saturdays. I'll announce all the info early next week. But in the meantime, here's our weekend schedule:

10 am (team workout, non-parents)

11 am (mobility, open to everyone)

1 pm (babies)

This Saturday is locked in at 10 am and I think that will work going forward. If, for some reason, 9 would work better, let me know. I'll be asking around. Also, I'm a little lenient this week with the parents and kids separate team workout. Starting next week it will be pretty strict.

Also, the internet at the gym has been down lately, so the timing of the posts might be a little off.

Christmas Workout Results, Highlights, and Photos

Welp, this morning the Christmas crew set a Champions Club record for the most athletes in a single session. With a total of 36 in attendance (37 if you include Mrs. Fitz on the Marc Pro), we had a packed house for our 9th annual Christmas workout.

Sabal bounced quick, and is not pictured

The Thanksgiving workout proved to be a good testing grounds for the Babies crew, because they came in today calm and collective and at complete ease with our big crowd. They modified the wallballs, trading them for plate jumps, and alternated rounds on the twelve days of burpees. Otherwise they did everything as prescribed. On the big kids side of things, we had a return of Bromm, Big Kris, Lindsey, and Erika Banet. Rookies Nick Bewick, Danielle Woorden, Josh Howey, and Emma Demonaco all made their first Christmas appearance. And Erica freaking Krueger/Gibbons drove in from an hour away just to work out with us.

Speaking of the workout, we modified things a bit for the Magi Mile and Twelve Days of Burpees. For the Magi Mile, we did 30 mountain climbers instead of 45 - partly due to the even number/simplicity of it, and partially due to the mountain climber fiasco "recovery" workout from last Sunday that left the hip flexors of all 10 in attendance served medium rare (mine are still sore). And we skipped on the running and mountain climbers for the Twelve Days of Burpees and had each partner do each number of burpees.

The winning team this year was Ricky Carey and David Saporito.

With sit-ups that barely constituted "touching bands" and knee push-ups from Slick Rick, it's no surprise they pulled out the victory over Jacob and Jay. The final standings and full photo gallery can be seen below.

And for good measure, we have highlights from the Twelve Days of Burpees.

Thank you guys so much for the turnout today! It really makes my day, and probably week, to see our family mesh like this. We had people like Mama V, Bubs, and Mrs. Carey in attendance who were around for the very first Christmas workout, lots of other Champions Club veterans and rookies, and including the Babies session adds a lot to the energy in the building. On top of all this, I think a special shoutout is necessary for Katie Shakes, who has done more behind the scenes to make this event run smoothly than you guys will ever know. She's the real deal, kids.

Thank you again, and tomorrow is at 11 am for anyone wanting to mobilize or make up a workout they missed. Hope to see you there. And to keep tradition, here's some happy trees and titanuim white for the soul.
