Christmas Workout Results, Highlights, and Photos

Welp, this morning the Christmas crew set a Champions Club record for the most athletes in a single session. With a total of 36 in attendance (37 if you include Mrs. Fitz on the Marc Pro), we had a packed house for our 9th annual Christmas workout.

Sabal bounced quick, and is not pictured

The Thanksgiving workout proved to be a good testing grounds for the Babies crew, because they came in today calm and collective and at complete ease with our big crowd. They modified the wallballs, trading them for plate jumps, and alternated rounds on the twelve days of burpees. Otherwise they did everything as prescribed. On the big kids side of things, we had a return of Bromm, Big Kris, Lindsey, and Erika Banet. Rookies Nick Bewick, Danielle Woorden, Josh Howey, and Emma Demonaco all made their first Christmas appearance. And Erica freaking Krueger/Gibbons drove in from an hour away just to work out with us.

Speaking of the workout, we modified things a bit for the Magi Mile and Twelve Days of Burpees. For the Magi Mile, we did 30 mountain climbers instead of 45 - partly due to the even number/simplicity of it, and partially due to the mountain climber fiasco "recovery" workout from last Sunday that left the hip flexors of all 10 in attendance served medium rare (mine are still sore). And we skipped on the running and mountain climbers for the Twelve Days of Burpees and had each partner do each number of burpees.

The winning team this year was Ricky Carey and David Saporito.

With sit-ups that barely constituted "touching bands" and knee push-ups from Slick Rick, it's no surprise they pulled out the victory over Jacob and Jay. The final standings and full photo gallery can be seen below.

And for good measure, we have highlights from the Twelve Days of Burpees.

Thank you guys so much for the turnout today! It really makes my day, and probably week, to see our family mesh like this. We had people like Mama V, Bubs, and Mrs. Carey in attendance who were around for the very first Christmas workout, lots of other Champions Club veterans and rookies, and including the Babies session adds a lot to the energy in the building. On top of all this, I think a special shoutout is necessary for Katie Shakes, who has done more behind the scenes to make this event run smoothly than you guys will ever know. She's the real deal, kids.

Thank you again, and tomorrow is at 11 am for anyone wanting to mobilize or make up a workout they missed. Hope to see you there. And to keep tradition, here's some happy trees and titanuim white for the soul.

Army Workout Recap

Earlier this morning we brought back the Summer 2014 Army Theme Workout with a few twists in the mix. First, we had an even group of 12, so we did teams of 4 instead of 5. As such, we took out the ring dip station in an attempt to keep the rotations even. Next we took out the partner deadlift because Coach T's monster sandbags are not here any more and added a bar swing in place, we subbed a medicine ball run for the double unders, and last but not least, Binno came up big for us and brought some 60-lb. logs from his house we could use for the cleans in conjunction with the tire flips.

After people got the hang of it, it seemed to go pretty smoothly.  The playlist was also very interesting; Binno managed to find an Army Cadence station on Spotify, which sounded exactly like you would imagine. The winning team consisted of Elizabeth, Murley, Saporito, and Ricky. You can see the full results here. And I managed to snap a few pictures that can be seen in the August '17 Daily WODs photo gallery.

Great job to everyone today, good looks to Elizabeth for bugging me over and over to bring this one back, and I think we might have room for one more theme workout between now and Harry Potter. So be on the lookout.

Shark Week/Hawaiian Workout Recap

For the 4th Summer in a row, we combined two classic theme workouts: Shark Week and Hawaiian. We had a small turnout this morning, and unfortunately is was an odd number, so I was forced into service alongside the uninspiring and unflattering attire of Chris Binno.

I have always thought this was the toughest of all the theme workouts, and the sharking relay is a main culprit. This year we followed the same format as 2016: one minute at each of the 4 stations (we added the push jerk/press to Limbo Lifts) and 2 minutes on the Shark Relay. For the second week in a row, Aaron Sabal came out on the winning team, this time with Conor.

No doubt Conor was counting by two's, but I guess that's what they gotta do to win. The full results can be seen here. We will still be having at least 2 more theme workouts coming for the rest of the Summer. Maybe more. Be on the lookout!

Disney Doozy 2017 Recap

After three straight weeks of poor showing on team workout Saturdays, we finally got a great turnout! Carter, Kenny, Conor, Maddy, and her brother Nolan all set their alarms for an unusually early time of 8:30 am and joined the rest of our crew for the classic Disney Doozy Theme Workout.

Lindsey surprised everyone by bringing on our choice of Moana or the new Beauty and the Beast for us to watch after the workout, and Pat provided us with a slew on unfavorable carbohydrates to snack on (though, you heathens ate my Starbursts).

On a more serious side, Elizabeth and Jennifer teamed up to win the workout under the alias "Olaf and Sven" from that God-awful movie, Frozen. But we forgive them because they won.

There are few things that can put me in a better mood than seeing a well-attended Summer Theme Workout, and you guys all did a great job today, especially rookies Lindsey and Pat. Big shouts to Bubs for being Bubs. And special mention to Binno, who not only won the best-dressed award for his Aladdin outfit, but also put his plunging powers to good use a half hour before the session and unclogged the paper-towel stuffed boys' toilet. (Paper towel is for the garbage can... I thought that was a given!)

But I digress. Again, thanks for a great workout folks. Be on the lookout for 80's coming soon. Until then:

There was a magical aura in the gym this morning before the Harry Potter Workout.

Saturday Reminder + CPR Opportunity + Mott Game Night

Remember, this Saturday at 11 am is the Harry Potter Theme Workout.

Also, Maria's mom will be taking me through a CPR and AED course after the workout. She said anyone who wants to get certified can attend. $40 bucks

Finally, Warren Mott is playing at Troy Athens tonight at 7 pm. I will most likely be heading there after the 7 pm session, so if anyone wants to carpool let me know. Mott will feature Champions Club athletes Kris Campbell, Dawson Bielski, and Tyler Jabara.
