Pic of the Week: Ford/Stevenson Thriller

Both Ford and Stevenson got their games cancelled on Friday, so tonight ended up being their season opener. Despite having to shake off the rust, the game brought out an intensity that often happen in cross-town rivalries. I'm about as fluent in my soccer termanology as I am in... well... I'm not really fluent in any termanology, to be honest. So I don't really know how to describe what was going on. But I can show you:
Not the Pic of the Week, by the way
You have Jessica Suchta, a mighty, ripped, intense, lonely Spartan soldier trying to will her team to a victory through pushing, kicking, yelling, intimidation, and overall physical dominance, but then you have this mighty Persian army who slings Champions Club kids from every direction on the field.
Ford scored early in the first half and looked to be in control most of the game. But in the second half, Stevenson took advantage of an opportunity and scored off a deflection to tie the game. After that it was a pressure-filled series of runs from Ford, only to be beaten away by Jessica's resilient defense at the last second.
Finally, with 6 minutes to go in the game, the tie was broken by... you guessed it: Dillon Sharp! She made a nice move in front of the net and lofted one right over the goalie's hands to give her team the lead.
Ford went on to add another goal at the very end, making the final 3-1. After the game our Champions Club peeps got together for the traditional picture.
Like I said, I don't really know what's going on out there, but I think it's for the better. Instead of watching for knees twitching, running on the heels, spinal position, and other boring stuff, we got to see our kids compete. And compete, they did. There were tons of plays where Jessica was matched up 1-on-1 with Dillon or Maddy; those were fun to see who won the pushing matches. Dillon and Maddy also seemed to play off each other a lot, which has to be a good thing, I'd imagine. Paris set up some cool-looking corner kicks and despite being a sophomore, Tea didn't shy away from contact. And, of course, our Champions Club Cheering Section was great, this time featuring Mrs. Tara, Mr. Gjon, Conamora, Lulu, Dita, and Makenna.
Way to represent girls! I hope they schedule another Ford/Stevenson matchup!
