Athlete of the Week: Zach Hilliard

For the last week in July, the Athlete of the Week award goes to Zach Hilliard.
Zach had football stuff early in the week and was not able to attend the 10am session. But since he has been consistent this Summer, we let him into the 1:30 session with The Freaks to see how he would compare. Needless to say he did not disappoint, and the theme for Zach this week was good form. Even in his first two sessions with The Freaks, he did not look like an outlier on modified handstand push-ups, box pistols, or deadlifts. And as the week continued, he carried that back into the 10 am session including good kb swings with 24k on Thursday's 5 round quadruplet and solid timing on yesterday's cleans.
Few athletes have been more consistent this Summer than the Hilliard siblings. It is clear that Alexis runs the show, dragging her brother Zach out of bed every morning to attend the 10 am session. As it turns out, the habit seems to be rubbing off because Zach has managed to come in even on days when his sister was away. His consistency is showing in his movement, considering he can do push-ups, banded pull-ups, cleans, and now, a rope climb...
I'm not gonna lie though, I think Zach is still holding out on us. While I have no beef with the form constantly getting better, I have seen flashes of competitiveness in him come and go. It is just enough to give me hope for the future, but sporadic enough to annoy me. I think if he ever gets his mental toughness to go with his willingness to learn, we will be looking at one of the best three-sport athletes in the area. You got more in the tank Zach, and I'm gonna hold you to that. Let's finish up with a great Summer to head into football season.
