Athlete of the Week: Zander

As we wrap up the month of July, our Athlete of the Week this time around goes to Zander Munk.

Honestly I was going to try to write some stuff here about Zander's progression as a person, and his dedication, and other things not necessarily related to working out. But... dude did 27 rounds of Cindy, man. Without use of butterfly pull-ups. Without chalk. Without straightening his arms on push-ups having anyone over his shoulder pushing him to go faster. That is almost a Murph and a half worth of bodyweight movements done in 20 minutes. Young fella was flying.

So here's where I'll talk about Zander a bit, and actually, today's field trip is a perfect writing prompt. During our first lockdown workout at Madison, Owen brought Zander to tag along without really asking if it was okay. It wasn't, as it turns out, but I let him work out anyway. It did not go well, and I made some politically incorrect comments about Zander's intelligence and attention span. Somehow Zander (and Owen, to his credit) never really took no for an answer and the little brother kept tagging along with big brother for the workouts. Fast forward two years and Zander has an Athlete of the Week and Athlete of the Winter award to his name, and is putting himself in the running for another Athlete of the -blank- award. I could not be more proud of him.

I should also note that last week Mr. Mark and Mr. Gjon brainstormed, collaborated, and ordered a Tour de France-esque leader jacket to give the Athlete of the Week to wear for his/her week of glory. We'll see if the tradition continues; just be thankful it didn't start until after Evan got it is June.
