Champions Club Summer 2022 Attendance Draft

I kept thinking this was the latest we've ever done the Attendance Draft, but it turns out last year's version was posted on the exact same day we did it this yeae. Punctuality just doesn't seem to be our thing. Catholic School kids was the theme for this year and we settled on Zander, Bubs, Anto, Aaron (Anto almost got voted out again due to untimely vacations but he made it back in time!)

Same format as last year: serpentine drafting style, each team picked form the regular group first, then the rookies, then the Double-A, then one wild card. The order was:

  1. Bubs
  2. Zander
  3. Anto
  4. Aaron

Also, Mel Muiper has made it back for another year of his analysis.

Here's how it ended up:

Grunchberries (Bubs)

  1. Evan
  2. Mr. Malak
  3. Wesley
  4. Mr. Kuiper
  5. Bewick
  6. Mrs. Burton
  7. Shakes
  8. Mrs. Carey
  9. Mr. Bennis
  10. Bethany
  11. Samantha
  12. Mrs. Robinson
  13. Derek
  14. Perk
  15. Schott
  16. Jay
  17. Mr. Carey
  18. Lily
  19. Koje
  20. Kate
  21. *Mallory
  22. *Zeena
  23. **David Saporito

K(u)iper draft grade. B. Evan as the first overall pick was a solid choice, even considering he may have made physical threats both before and during the draft process. Mrs. Robinson and Mr. Carey were both tremendous late-round picks, and picking up safe bets like Jay and Shakes set a very steady floor for the Grunchberries. Bubs did have an advantage going into the draft, being the person who records the daily attendance on this here website, so one can definitely wonder about passing a few of the names below, and also the blatant nostalgic reach to pick Saporito as her wild card. Still, she opens the Summer as the favorite to win the draft.

Body of Christ (Zander)

  1. Mr. Van
  2. Jessica
  3. Erica(x2)
  4. Mr. Mark
  5. Owen
  6. Dylan
  7. Reese
  8. Paris
  9. Jenna
  10. Makenna
  11. Sarah Curtis
  12. Coach Casey
  13. Gavin
  14. Langston
  15. Loop
  16. Crawford
  17. Mrs. Lanette
  18. Koltin
  19. Maggie
  20. Mackenzie
  21. *Josh Bennis
  22. *Parker
  23. **Luke

K(u)iper draft grade. C+. Zander came into this draft with a crippling disadvantage insofar as he doesn't really know anyone's name. So when, for example, he picked Reese with his 7th round pick, not only did he not know who she was, but was also unaware that she lives waaaaaay far away and can't drive yet. And while Gavin and Coach Casey were great mid-round picks, caving in to familiarity and picking Owen in the 5th(!) round and Mr. Mark in the 4th(!!) round places him squarely on the hot seat. Erica's attendance is counting for 2x, so it remains to be seen is the flashy statistics distracted logic there. However, in the most unintentionally savvy move of the draft, Zander picked Mr. Van - defending draft champion - with his first round pick (second overall); no doubt his wisdom will be called upon early and often in trade propositions.

Book of Banet (Anto)

Jesus | Know Your Meme

  1. Mrs. Van
  2. Dillon
  3. Mr. Gjon
  4. Moustaache
  5. Loretta
  6. Mrs. Hana
  7. Madison
  8. William
  9. Lulu
  10. Emma Lang
  11. Mr. Robinson
  12. Alejandro
  13. Priti
  14. Allie Good
  15. Conamora
  16. Mrs. Jayme
  17. Kadence
  18. Sam Curtis
  19. Adam
  20. Pitt
  21. *Michael Banet
  22. *Clarice
  23. **Carvin

K(u)iper draft grade. C+. This is a difficult one to grade because there are many hidden gems in there - Loretta in the 5th round, Lulu in the 9th, Conamora in the 15th - and he also has the highest-graded Rookie (Adam), two highest-graded Double-A kids (his brother and Clarice), and the most-likely-to-contribute wild card in Carvin. But there are no doubt some stretches: Dillon in the 2nd round, his brother in the 4th, Madison and William back-to-back, and Emma freaking Lang in the 10th round. It appears that Anto allowed flashes of workout potential to override consistent performance.

God Speed (Aaron)

  1. Mrs. Tara
  2. Cecilia
  3. Schulz
  4. Josh Van

  6. Jaylee
  7. Caleb Backos
  8. Josh Backos
  9. Arthur
  10. Tea
  11. Ashlyn
  12. Jaxson
  13. Crystal
  14. Mrs. Nevarez
  15. Mr. Andrew
  16. Mr. Ron
  17. Calan
  18. Mr. Curtis
  19. Jelena
  20. Mici
  21. *Dita
  22. *Ryan
  23. **Master P

K(u)iper draft grade. B. Far and away the steal of this draft was Jaylee freaking Hall - first place in attendance last two Summers - going in the 6th round; he also picked up Alex Schulz (my highest rated prospect coming into the draft) in the 3rd round. Mrs. Tara and Cecilia, while not home run picks, were very safe bets in the early rounds. His stretch of the Backos boys and Arthur might prove to be his downfall in what appears to be a two-team race with the Grunchberries for the championship. Although, I will go out on a limb and predict that Aaron will have the best overall attendance out of all the captains.
