Quote of the Week vol. 51: The McGonagall Rule

"The house of Godric Gryffindor has commanded the respect of the wizarding world for nearly ten centuries. I will not have you, in one night, besmirching that name by behaving like a babbling, bumbling band of baboons!"

- Professor McGonagall to the Hogwarts students re: the Yule Ball. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Recently I have noticed how people tend to wait for something to happen before setting up ideal guidlines or keeping important things out of the basement. The following has been in my head for awhile now and after clearing it with a couple kids, I've decided to add a rule for our Champions Club College (or High School) kids.

I can't say that I have ever (knowingly) attended a party. But enough people do on a regular basis for me to concede there must be at least a few things appealing about them. So despite my disapproval of the partying type, I think I found a reasonable method to meet half-way. It mainly pertains to using social media to brag about your deviant actions. Here's the McGonagall Rule

Enjoy yourself responsibly. If we find pictures of you shit-faced, drunk, or drinking on the Twitter (or its cousin networks) then one of the two following actions will follow:

1. You may not come back to the gym over Christmas Break or Spring Break (depending on when it happened).

2. You will be subject to the infamous Death-by-7-minutes-of-Burpees workout.

Yes, there are always double standards (even though people in charge rarely admit it). Depending on your track record, red cups may or may not count.  If you are 21+, I can't really do anything about it but obviously prefer you not to post pictures because younger people in the gym look up to you. If you are in College, you'll most likely face door #1. If you are in high school, you will most likely see door #2. Basically, I don't expect everyone to be a recluse like myself, but I also don't expect them to share their rebellious ways for everyone to see. I won't be wasting time trolling through your Twitter and Instagram accounts, but word always gets around. So best advice is: no be there!

While we don't have ten centuries of respect in the wizarding world, be do have a half decade of a pretty solid reputation behind us. And we have seen (some first-hand) how one Niiccceeeee can destroy a lot of that. Be good!

You guys know way more than I do. So please share this with whoever you think should read it. It would suck if one of your friends couldn't work out with you because you didn't warn them. Police yourselves.

I think this is a very good post. I agree, I mean, as a unit, we all sort of represent a healthy lifestyle (most of the time) and sharing these kind of things on social media will sort of lower expectations from others of you.

I agree with Erika, whatever is being posted or done we are in some way or another representing the Champions Club and setting examples for all of the other kids who are training, so we should definitely set a good one!

I even get judged for eating junk food because everyone knows I "do CrossFit," so I think we are all held to a higher standard when we represent groups. You can either rise to the occasion or be one of the reasons people think CrossFit is stupid. Or the Champions Club isn't all that. But those few people who set bad examples are remembered so much more than the majority who are doing the right thing. It's not fair, but it's true and definitely worth thinking about.

Good points all you guys (even Aly). Glad you support it

Loved this post. Murley's comment is spot on too, rise to the occasion. Just because college kids are expected to post drunk ass pictures 24/7 doesn't mean you should.
