From the Vault: Urgent vs. Important

Unless I'm tripping, there seems to be a weird tension going around not only the Champions Club, but the few other environments I'm involved in at this time. I think a big part of it comes from seeing what might be a legit return to some version of life we had access to before, but the fatigue taking a toll on our quality. Kinda like the 14-minute mark of a 20-minute AMRAP; far enough in to see the end but not close enough to the finish to make you feel any better about where you're at.

This, to me, is not much of a concern; the clock will eventually end on this thing just like the clock will eventually reach 20:00 on Cindy. I think there will be even more tension when everything opens back up.

This last year has really been a blessing for the Champions Club as a business and the health and fitness of the people in it. Every distraction other than the gym was taken away (though, legally, this should have been taken away too) and all of us accomplished stuff we never would have made time for - to this extent - in the past. Saying "no" is difficult and when there's nothing to say "no" to decisions are pretty simple.

I have a feeling you guys are going to be bombarded with stuff once everything opens back up. That could be Mr. Webster getting more construction projects at work or it could be Drew Webster getting alerts from every baseball and football coach he's ever had asking him to join workouts.

Never has it been more important to be able to sift through the mess and see what's important and what isn't. A while back I wrote a post that outlined Stephen Covey's graph and I think it's due for a reminder.

Obviously I have skin in the game, as my business depends solely on a good number of people holding this place in high importance. But regardless I know how overwhelming it can feel when presented with a ton of options at once. We need the ability to slow things down to our own pace, find what is truly important to us, and make time for it no matter what. Urgent is not always important.
