Saturday Highlights: Snow Time

I will say that despite the vibe I can give of absentmindedness and "winging it," there is quite a bit of thought that goes behind the workouts. First I look at what kind of food has been given to us for the day on crossfit.com, then I cook up the ingredients based on what I think we need to practice the most. It can either be the same across the board or different from session to session.

Then about once a year you can count on me to do something that would be categorized as just good ol' fashioned dumb shit. Thanks to the weather gods and the snow plow guy I tipped an extra $20, today we reached our quota for 2021.

I could talk about how we are challenging our positions by removing connection, as the snow provides a less stable point of support for the feet like the rings do for the hands. I could talk about how throwing is a general movement pattern that needs to be done regularly. I could talk about how the uneven terrain is the best way to not only work on balance, but also mobility of the hips and ankles. I could talk about how climbing up the snow hill is reinforcing the lunging movement pattern we worked on three(!) times this week. Or I could talk about how informal play and preparing for the unknown and unknowable is our purpose for doing CrossFit in the first place, not to get better at burpees and thrusters. But none of that went into the thinking for doing the workout we did today, it was a byproduct.

Here is the thinking behind today's workout: I'll bet this will piss them off.

Unfortunately I don't think it worked. Everyone seemed to be having fun. It took about 2 minutes for everyone to remember what to do on a snow hill, but once that happened our 9 am session turned into a real-life Super Smash Bros free-for-all.

I didn't get any video from the 10 am session, mostly because all 8 of them ditched their workout simultaneously and tattooed me with snowballs. If I didn't know any better, I would say that Mrs. Tara was mad at me for something. Also, big ups to Schott: this was his first time ever playing on a snow hill, and Even baptized him with a textbook bodyslam. The premeditation of which can be seen in "9 am snow group 7".

We got a good group, y'all.
