Mrs. Gloria Tallies Career High in Win Over Gravity, Logic, and Statistical Probability

Yesterday morning I was talking with Cecilia and Dillon about coaching; you know, like being able to watch what is going on in front of you and make a determination whether or not the person can, in fact, do what they're trying to do. 300 pounds on Mr. Kuiper's deadlift bar: is it gonna happen today or not? 50 double unders in a row for Josh Van: is it gonna happen or not? The determining factor that goes into this kind of coaching is based on two things: 1) have they done it before and 2) are they close to doing it right now?
...........
About a half hour ago Mrs. Gloria wanted to play basketball for her warmup. And not just the passing back and forth we normally do, but the foreign act of pushing the ball in an arching motion (commonly referred to as shooting, puling, wetting, splashing, or Hunter Dickinsoning) the ball through the hoop. My coaching checklist:
1) she claimed to have never successfully made a basket in her life (a sad life she has led, indeed)
2) her attempts had less hope than all of our soccer girls playing 2-ball combined
Alas...
We did not work out afterwards. Instead she served us pancakes.
