Yesterday's workout, "Candy", was a CrossFit classic from back in 2006, and oddly enough it was the first workout I ever met Pukie the Clown. We modified it quite a bit yesterday for most people and kept the death legs feeling.

At the 9 am session, it was a Cecilia and Alyssa show and they each had a great workout. Cecilia is a standout soccer player at Grand Valley, and Alyssa is fighting to get a starting spot at Concordia on the softball diamond. Different sports, different positions, same workout.

Often times, the things that happen in sports are so complex and unpredictable that trying to gameplan a specific strength and conditioning program leaves gaping holes in the athletes' fitness. Instead, it's best to just to do a little bit of everything - at a high intensity assuming good form - and go practice your sport on the side. Alyssa and Cecilia both need to squat, push, and pull in their sport. And they need to be able to do it well when their are tired. That is where the gym comes in. Both have had a great late-spring/Summer so far, and if this keeps up I'll be excited to see where this takes them in the fall.
