Attendance PSA: Don't Just Check the Box

Our attendance overall is... uh... rather good. Like, the best we've ever seen by a pretty long shot I'm guessing. So as with any other good thing that happens here, I'd like to take a minute to rain on our 4-week parade. And I am going to start with Luke Heide.
This is Summer number 4 for Luke and his attendance percent has been, in order: 91%, 87%, and 86%. During his Rookie year of 2018 the body transformation that happened and his conditioning really reflected someone with 91% attendance. The next two Summers, however, did not have that same result; despite being top-10 both years he didn't seem any fitter coming out of Summer as he did going in. This Summer is a different story and I hope he can keep up the great progress he's been making so far.
Now onto Jaylee Hall; last Summer she became one of a few ever with perfect attendance and, like Luke's rookie year, her improvements reflected her attendance. This Summer she has perfect attendance going again and I don't think she is moving too much different than she did while she was in the middle of her softball season in April. I hope this will change before volleyball starts in August.
Space Jam Workout from Summer 2020 - only photo I have with Luke and JayleeThe reason I enjoy the Summer so much at the Champions Club is because so many outside factors are removed from the table - for myself and for you guys - and a majority of our attention and energy is directed towards 32301 Stephenson Hwy. This has led to our all-timer numbers going on right now. (Erica just emailed them to me, they're nuts). But I'm greedy. In 6 weeks school is going to be rolling around, fall sports will be playing a few games per week, and Michigan Football will be shocking the college football world with an undefeated record and top-5 national ranking. In other words, life returns sooner than we think and our attention is going to be partially pulled away from here and this environment. So here's how I think you can take advantage of this historic Summer we are in right now:
1. Compete
The downside to having 60 people every day, 40 people at team workouts, and 20 people at regular sessions is the individual time is more scarce than Mr. Malak squatting below parallel. We have 20+ rookies and all of them show up all the freaking time, we have a few college kids back for only a few months, and now there's a Babies session; you're probably not going to get as much of my attention as you're used to. But with numbers like we have now there is almost always someone at a session you can compete with, and if not, there's a time on the whiteboard. Every evening at 6:30 Mrs. Nevarez knows for a fact that Mrs. Van's time is up there somewhere; during Josh's baseball season that's not always the case.
2. Specialty Movements
Double unders, muscle-ups, and handstand push-ups are three movements off the top of my head that I don't prioritize often in sessions because they're kind of further down the line of CrossFit-specific movements. If you're here 4 days a week then there's a sense of urgency to make sure we are hitting the vulnerable spots every session. But if you're here 7 days a week then there's a lot more chance to work on some of that stuff. Can you get your first muscle-up? Can you get 50 double-unders in a row? Can you do a freestanding handstand push-up?
3. Mobility
Imagine if in September you can say, "Well I was at literally every mobility day this Summer but I still wish I could ____." Kelly Starrett always says muscles and tissues are like obedient dogs. Pick one thing and do it every single day you're in here until it no longer feels like a stretch. Hang from a bar for 3 minutes. Do 4 minutes of couch stretch each side. Sit in the bottom of a pistol for 5 minutes. Start now on whatever you want to have come September.
