Tough Ol' Broads

This morning I was blessed to be on the receiving end of an enlightening soliloquy from Mrs. Gloria; it started about squats being the foundation of everything, then somehow steered towards the topic of navy beans, and then finally concluded with this gem:

In the olden days, calling a woman a "Tough Ol' Broad" was considered the highest compliment one can give. Women would tend to the cattle, steer the wagons, heal the sick members of their family, and fight off the Indians... all while the men were fighting amongst themselves.

This, of course, made me think of CrossFit - especially the "olden" days of CrossFit when there was not a separate women's prescribed weight from men's. The rx'd standards were the rx'd standards.

You'll notice in today's workout there is no separate rowing distance for men and women: they both have to do the same thing. Same with most of yesterday's workout (pull-ups, push-ups, GHD sit-ups, back extensions). The reason the distance was never differentiated in the past is because there were girls like Kelly Moore, Annie Sakamoto, Eve T, and Nicole Carroll who would routinely do the "as rx'd" weight and crush most of the guys.

In here we have girls like Bubs, Cecilia, and Dillon, who routinely use as much weight as guys, and Katie Shakes, who uses more weight than the guys in workouts. And God help any male in our gym who wants to go one-on-one with Mrs. Tara in a workout.

Ummm... that's all I have to write for now. I really just wanted to find an excuse to post Mrs. Gloria's knowledge nuggets. Conclusion.
