






Yesterday we did our max effort hang snatches trying to encourage self-coaching and self-scaling. A set number of reps was assigned to do in 20 minutes (usually around 35) and they could be split up in any way. Doing the same thing over and over with no interruption between is called blocked practice and is a really efficient way to improve on the skill of something.
Nick Krstich was at the 6:30 pm session and really impressed me with the timing and rhythm of the movement. Once I saw that was consistent the focus went on landing position, hoping to keep off the heels and the knees still. Here's what the last few reps looked like.
In the past I would rather someone go 5-for-5 on reps with great form than go 6-10 with 6 great reps and 4 bad ones. But as I've adjusted to coaching max effort sessions by myself I really like to allow "bad form" reps to happen as long as it's safe. Over the course of the session Nick got a ton of chances to feel what good reps are like and what bad ones are like. This has been a thing for a while now and is, I think, a big reason why new kids are picking up form really quickly despite not going through a 7- or 5-session Fundamentals thing with me. Nick is a prime example.
