New Rule: Cheering is Not OK in Tennis

A gang of Champions Club kids showed up at EP's home tennis match yesterday at Warren Mott - including myself, the Kavanaughs, Murley, Ricky, Bromm, Jason, and David. We were there to see EP fight her way back from a 5-2 defecit in the first set to win 7-5.

During the set, we saw that Ep could not get in a rhythm on the court. So, we decided to start a little cheering section to help encourage her. EP got in her groove and began her comeback with the help of the Champions Club cheering her on. Sure, there was some trash talking, but most of that came from Katie Bromm - who led a relentless verbal assault on EP's opponent. Naturally, Katie's ginger power prompted David to join the heckling by questioning calls and coaching decisions. All in good fun, of course, and all in attempt to help our suprisingly athletic friend win her tennis match. We were soon to realize, however, that a tennis "match" consisted of two more of whatever-it-was-that-we-just-watched. And with a a Fundamentals session set to start, I had to leave.

Seconds after my departure, it was brought to my attention that the Champions Club cheering section was scolded for "clapping" and "cheering too loud" - something tennis people (track people minus a stopwatch) apparently find to be appaling. But even without the cheering section, EP went on to win her final set - and therefore the match.

Hopefully Katie, David, and crew will learn to be more polite at games from now on...

This week has proven to be very successful for our Mott kids in their sports. David Saporito won his events in the track meets Monday and Wednesday. The Banets and Alyssa Jabara won their softball game on Tuesday. And the same day, Erika Banet's JV softball team won 30-7 because apparently someone forgot there is a mercy rule.

Stay posted for more sporting events. And will Collin Skorupski or Wendy Skorupski please bring in his baseball schedule so we know when his games are? I'm pretty sure we missed a few of them by now.
