Leaders of the New School: Shannon and Shakes

Warren Mott can add two Champions Club members to their spring sports staff. First, Katie Shakes, who was previously an assistant varsity softball coach, is now the head JV coach. Although she will likely remain on the bench during the varsity's big games, she is now alone and in charge of the JV program.
So far, she said that there are a ton of freshmen who will see a lot of playing time and their attitude will be easy to work with. In addition to catching the Banets and Alyssa on varsity, we'll need to make it to at least one of Shakes's games this year.

On the other side of campus, Canada has invaded.
Shannon Marchant is now the head sprints coach for the boys and girls track team at Mott, where I will be helping as well. It is a tag-team kind of thing at the moment; I get there and coach technique for the first half hour of practice until Shannon gets back from work, then she picks up where I left off and takes them through the day's workout while I race back for the 3:30 Champions Club session. So far it's been new territory for me. I'm used to practices of 10-15 at Foley, compared to around 100 kids on the team now. We're trying to make a few adjustments so the kids can get more individual attention.
