90's Theme Workout/Battle of the Bands Recap

38 in total showed up this morning for our 2nd running of the 90's Theme Workout (a Summer 2015 original), and I have to say I think this was one of the smoothest non-regular Theme Workouts we've done in recent memory. We split into boys, girls, moms, and dads; Bubs, Dillon, Madison, Bethany, and Shakes went with the moms, and Aaron and Zander went with the dads, propelling them to a win with a time of 24:05.
Missing Priti in the picture, whose famous last words were. "I feel like throwing up!"

This might be a separate post, but I do want to talk for a minute. We created a recipe today that exposed something: diverse fitness groups + synchronized reps = lack of confrontation.
It takes a great deal of courage to stand up to your enemies, but a great deal more to stand up to your friends.

Our Summer 2022 group is as harmonious and cooperative and trusting as we've ever been; the caveat is I'm always there to make the difficult decisions. Or, not necessarily difficult, but the ones that require an awkward confrontation. Mr. Van or Jaylee flipping off some reckless-driving stranger is relatively easy compared to Mr. Van or Jaylee telling Mr. Carey or Sarah to just do whatever reps they can on the side. This is... interesting to me. Not bad. Not good. Just interesting. And makes me think that we need more of it. Our community will be very limited if we can only pair up people of the same fitness level or personality, and if this group is going to last for decades we have to address these kinds of vulnerable spots.

Big shouts to the lockdown crew for doing a test run of this on Thursday, to Bubs for doing the playlist, to Shakes for bringing the speaker and organizing the Dairy Queen trip after, to Dita and Natalie for jumping in, to Zander for rocking a freaking Penny Hardaway pinstripe Orlando jersey(!), and to the rest of you guys for making another Summer 2022 Theme Workout go so well. Check back in two weeks for the unveiling of a new Theme. Better get the cleats ready!
