Test/Retest: Testimonial Edition

Way back in the days of the weight room, a small squeaky freshman wandered into our midst. Mariah Fielder Ducky Bubs would eventually become one of the foundational members of the Champions Club, and possibly the most adored.

Here is her first testimonial:

"So I figured since ive been doing crossfit no no no CHAMPIONS CLUB for over a year now it would be appropriate to write one of these little thingies so here goes it:

so as a freshman i was fortunate enough to be on jv volleyball where i met emma and ab who were always talking about crossfit. this sparked my interest and i joined that fall. the first week of crossfit was awfulll i was soooo tired it was ridiculous but i started going reguraly and then that kind of went down during the winter and spring. but when the summer came i tried to go as much as possible. in the summer i got my first pullup (actually two) and first double under (also two) which was possibly the greatest day of my life i didn't know getting a pullup could get me tht it excited but ohh it did!

i had gone from a green band in the fall to my first real pull up in the summer and now i do pullups with no band...yesss even in workouts. Now i come pretty regurally because its easy to do something you love :) Crossfit has gotten me in much better shape and also alottt stronger. (all thanks to CHRIStian and Brian ) even my running has gotten better . well a little. Not only has crossfit gotten me in better shape it has given me lasting friendships. I can pretty much garenttee you if i hadnt of joined crossfit i wouldnt be very good friends with Ryan, Jack, Jackie, Pip, and Megan and Marianne who dont even go to foley! (and thats only to name a few) But my favorite part of Champions club would definatly be that during workouts we can be so competivtive with one another but once its over its back to cheering others on. I definatly consider Champoin Club my family and i dont know what i would do with out it"

It really can't get better than that...but why not try? I asked Mariah to write another testimonial, focusing on the changes that she's seen in herself and the Champions Club, her stint on the track team, and what it's like to be a departing senior.

"So when Emma asked me to right this testimonial I automatically said yes of course, but now sitting down to write it I’m stuck. How can I possibly sum up the past four years I’ve been at crossfit? My improvements? Changes within The Champions Club? What it’s going to be like to leave? For me it’s impossible to really explain all of this but I’m going try my best so here goes it…

Well when I first joined crossfit I was a chubby little freshman who had no idea what a deadlift snatch or clean was, Kelly and Nancy were just names to me and Emma Wonsil was just a teammate of mine who constantly talked about this thing called crossfit. After being the most inconsistent person ever attendance wise I got the Crossfit bug my sophomore year and I was hooked. Even though I was still an out of shape athlete I always had a blast, which is true to this day.

Not only did I always have fun I improved in every way possible. I can now climb a rope (which Chris never thought would happen) my duck feet ways have improved, and I can complete a running work out without almost passing out. That unfortunate success then lead me to becoming the third runner of the girls 400 meter relay team my junior year. I have never been a part of something that gives me so much anxiety in my life. Let’s be honest we all want to impress and make Chris proud. Crossfit was always about training and becoming better for your sport. Track was however the “sport”. Those one minute and seven seconds around the track were the most torture filled moments of my life which resulted in me pretty much blocking the whole event out and sometimes hearing about halfway through  “pull quick.” Crossfit just like track has made me realize it’s not just about being the fastest or the strongest but having that mental toughness Chris always talks about. It’s being able to forget about pain and hardship and finishing those last 50 double unders in filthy fifty, its coming into the gym and forgetting whatever happened at school and killing the workout. Crossfit ,as cliché as it may sound, has been my home away from home and we are all so fortunate to always have a place to go, whether it’s to forget about everything else, hang out with friends, or just sit on a sweating couch and drink chocolate milk.

There have definitely been some changes throughout The Champions Club since I was a freshman like dip shrug drop to unweight and the old Foley wright room to The Box, but one thing has remained the same, the family atmosphere.

We compete and get annoyed with each other like brothers and sisters but at the end of the day we’re always cheering and wanting each other to do great.  I have been so fortunate to call all of you guys family and I can’t imagine not seeing your guys faces every day. I’m going to miss the team workouts, the cookouts, and all the countless hours spent at the box. I have been a part of something unexplainable to strangers but an unspoken bond among all of us. I’m going to miss bickering with my older brother every day, getting my butt kicked by Nicole, and yes even the painful mashing. Leaving The Champions Club I’m sure will be one of the hardest things ever but I will most definitely be back on the weekends and breaks. I could never leave for good and I don’t know how anyone could. The Champions Club has made me better in every way possible and I have each and every single one of you to thank for that."
