Bye Bye Ricky

Ricky Carey is known for many things. He's known for being a ladies' man.

He's known for single-handedly shutting down the GA football team when he broke his arm in 8th grade.

He's known for being one of the only guys in the Champions Club who doesn't like max effort days (one of the reasons he's my favorite).

He's known for being one of the ring leaders of the Freaks, the legendary 1:30 session from last summer with near-perfect form. Ricky himself is one of the best movers overall especially when it comes to more highly skilled movements (except split jerks, but you can't win 'em all).

But to me, he's known for being the last surviving member of my first ever 10 AM crew. I have fond memories of those days, when Ricky would crack up when I talked about deadlifting 300 pounds because he thought the idea of lifting that much weight was hilariously inconceivable.

2016:

From the days in Bishop Foley's new old weightroom when Ricky was as round as he was tall to the days he was at the top of the leaderboard in RX'd workouts and lifts, he has always been known for being one of the coolest kids around. When all of his GA-Foley friends slowly dropped out at the box, Ricky stuck with it. To me, that speaks volumes to his character. He doesn't act like it, but he's pretty smart too. I'm guessing that's what earned him his big scholarship to Central Michigan.

This is such a bittersweet post for me to write. I'm so proud to have known Ricky all these years, to have watched him basically stretch upward about 3 feet and become a respectable CrossFit athlete. But now that I have to say goodbye to my last first 10 AM'er, I officially feel really old. So thanks for that Slick.

How in the world was this 4 years ago!

Now that you're an official college kid, I hope you have a blast meeting tons of new people and starting this awesome new chapter in your life. You'll be happy to know that Chris won't be pushing you to do too many RX'd workouts when you come back. Good luck with your first semester! Your Champions Club family will be rooting for you until we see you again.

*sniffle* Love, Murley!
