Star Wars Theme Workout Recap

Another Theme Workout for Summer 2021 and another great turnout; 37 people in total for our first running of the Star Wars Theme. The premise of this one was simple: instead of teams competing against everyone, it would be a bunch of one-on-one matchups with each individual tallying wins for The Force or the Dark Side.

For whatever reason the format didn't seem to catch on until midway through the workout. Mrs. Tara made a suggestion that for some of these new Themes I should have a small group do a run-through a day or two before, just so there can be some extra "traffic officers" in the crowd helping direct people at their station. I also made two last-minute switches: kb swings for dumbbell snatch on Hylo Ten (a good decision), and push press instead of strict press on the Hands Solo station (not a good decision). I was going to actually do one-arm thrusters, but not sure why I didn't do that either.

Once things got rolling, though, I think it went well. The Yoda Carry station was really fun to watch, and we had a group of dads (pictured above) lumped together that were pretty evenly matched the entire way. In the end, the Dark Side came out as the winners, tallying up 52 total wins, as opposed to The Force's 41. There was definitely some missed tallies with the younger kids, but we'll adjust if we bring this back the next time a Star Wars movie comes out.

Big ups to Mr. Bennis for brainstorming and testing this workout with me on Thursday(?, maybe Wednesday? I forget). Shakes provided some music and artwork, Mrs. Tara helped brainstorm it and also brought in fruit. I really enjoyed this one!

This is the last Theme Workout for Summer 2021 until September 1, when we'll be rolling out our 12th annual Harry Potter workout. Details for that will be coming soon, but you can plan on it running over the course of two or three afternoon sessions (probably 2). Stay tuned...
