Coach's Corner: Anto Back Squats


Last week we had the opportunity to work on back squats to failure. Twice. It was not fun.
Squatting until failure is a lot different that doing push-ups to failure; in the latter your muscles fail first, and in the former your mind fails first.
Here's Anthony's last set of his 10 rep max back squat. For the time being ignore the depth on like two of the reps and also ignore the knees twitching. Instead, watch the speed in which he stands up.
Last rep looked the same as the first rep. In this instance we already did a few sets and I was cool with him calling it at that, but in reality he probably could have done 20 more pounds for a set of 10.
When you're the one doing the actual moving, things feel much worse than they appear to someone on the outside watching.
